ABSTRACT

Constructive and fragmented cinema languages are seemingly very different forms of cinema language which share many similar characteristics. Constructive cinema language is highly ordered and methodical. Fragmented cinema language seems, on the other hand, to be random and disjointed. The constructive cinema language discipline lends itself to a structure that builds to a climax. Rhythms and tempos are part of the design and are manipulated in strong rhythmic groupings. Constructive cinema language may make the action appear to be jumpy, jerky, or unreal. Meticulous planning is necessary for this language to work. Fragmented cinema language captures the essence of the action, the location, or the feelings of the observer.
