ABSTRACT

The remaining cinematic languages are often used for specific circumstances. Collision cinema language provides action adventure movies with conflict and discord. The advantage of symbolic cinema language is that it can turn an abstract idea into a visual image that has a strong emotional impact, capturing the essence of the idea, making the image superior to the “real thing.” Symbolic cinema language transcends the commonplace. Time manipulations can occur only when cutting to and from the primary, or to and from the secondary sequence. Parallel cinema language requires transitional planning so that crossing over to the other sequence will be understood. The primary sequence is the main story line; it takes more screen time than does the secondary. The secondary sequence bursts on the screen in an abbreviated fashion. Dialogue may be in conflict with the picture, another device used in collision.
