ABSTRACT
Lee Strasberg, one of the great American acting teachers, emphasized that the director’s first reading of the script is the most important reading of all. The director sees, hears, feels, and reacts to the script as if he were the audience. No other read-through of the script can ever duplicate that first time. This reading guides him through the many challenges of production.
