An architect from Homs, Syria, Marwa Al-Sabouni is internationally acclaimed for her contribution to architecture through practice, writing and exhibition-making. As reported on international news feeds, 60% of the district had been destroyed by shelling. Since 2009, the Palestinian architect and curator Noura Al Sayeh-Holtrop has been working at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) as Head of Architectural Affairs – highlighting the importance of heritage and culture, old and new.
