ABSTRACT
Odile Decq is a French architect, urban planner and academic. Since setting up practice in 1978, she has become known for a unique and inventive style of architecture. Decq increasingly takes a holistic approach – involved in the design from the architecture of the building to the interiors, landscape, lighting and product design. Looking to the future, Heringer hopes that architects shift their focus away from aesthetically pleasing edifices towards more meaningful, context-appropriate architecture. Karamuk Kuo’s approach addresses the performative aspects of architecture, which emerge at the intersection of structures, space and culture. The building houses different organisations with the aim to create ‘a space that allows them to share a collective identity, promoting the synergy between the different entities’. Moreover, while there were more women than men on her degree course, ‘a decade having passed, the majority of those colleagues remaining in architecture practice are men’.
