ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we tell a story across three vignettes about how a dismantling and rebuilding of whiteness occurred in a fourth-grade classroom at Union—the school in Charlotte we wrote about in the previous chapter. This story and the subsequent sense we make of it is about a student named Derek, but it also concerns the broader work of engaging white children (and white people) in anti-racist pedagogy.
