ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the mature, final phase of Santi Gucci’s artistic activity related to the development of his workshop in Pińczów. The location of Gucci’s workshop in the Pińczów stonecutters; district, implying the availability of material and the associated relatively low costs of order fulfillment, testifies to the artist’s excellent work organization and entrepreneurial spirit. During his nearly 50 years of artistic activity in Poland, Gucci was also a successful entrepreneur, employing sculptors and artisans in his Pińczów workshop. Most of the sculptural works in his workshop were created in the last years of the sixteenth century, during the period of the artist’s intense activity as an entrepreneur. A large number of commissions determined the collective nature of the creative process and the collective organization of work in the workshop. This implied a deep specialization of individuals within the workshop. The issue of the Pińczów workshop is therefore an important topic that requires a broader analysis, to which the last chapter of this book is devoted.
