ABSTRACT

The Vikings in Greenland were in the same predicament as the ones in Iceland and they refused to change their European-based ways. It is fair to say that in failing to change they collaborated in their society’s demise. And it is equally fair to say that all of us humans who are doing next nothing about our looming tragedy are collaborating in Mother Nature’s demise. It is true that human hubris is so pervasive that it appears to be human nature. But we are not born with the belief that we have the right to do whatever we want to the planet. We learn it at a very early age. And just as the Vikings in Iceland unlearned the belief that pigs and cows are essential ingredients of agriculture, we can unlearn our hubris.
