ABSTRACT
The question is not, Can we human beings change? The question is, Can we become utterly different people? Can we exchange our hubris for ENVIRONMENTALITY—that is, for ways of thinking, feeling, and acting in environmentally responsible ways? In 2010, 20-year-old Derek was a leading light of the U.S. White Nationalist Movement with a five day a week AM radio show promoting the cause. When he enrolled in New College, a public honors liberal arts school in Florida with the reputation of being the most liberal school in the state, his father told friends: “It’s not like any of these little commies are going to impact his thinking. If anyone is going to be influenced, here, it will be them.” Derek’s transformation while at New College gives hope that a critical mass of our can renounce humancentrism.
