ABSTRACT

“Whenever I needed to gather some courage,” says water expert and activist Gary White, “I’d always think back to one of my favorite quotes: ‘Evil flourishes when good people do nothing’.” U.S. film star Matt Damon was tempted to do nothing when rock star Bono pestered him go to Africa and do something about water scarcity. Instead, he entered into partnership with White and together they did a huge amount of good. You do not have to be a film star or possess a pile of money in order to help avert environmental disaster. Money is not the only kind of help the environment needs and people who lack clean water are not the only entities that need help. Ask yourself if any of the groups or institutions you belong to does anything that harms the environment. When you identify some injury, do something rather than nothing.
