ABSTRACT

Since the beginning of the new century, the world has embraced a new round of technological revolution. It has special background. First, innovations are urgently needed to address development challenges. Second, application of new technologies is moving from the deployment stage to the expansion stage. Lastly, slowdown of the world economy has further motivated the application of new technologies. Compared with previous technological revolutions, the ongoing one can be characterized by digitization, intelligence, green technologies, and a high degree of integration. The chapter indicates that the new round of technological revolution is still evolving, and there are four trends, i.e. development of information technology toward high-speed, high-efficiency and intelligence, low-carbon, distributed, and intelligent transformation of energy technology, evolution of transportation technology toward ultra-high-speed, intelligent, green and shared mobility, and collective breakthroughs of other technologies.
