ABSTRACT

The chapter contains theoretical background concerning destructive leadership styles, as a set of negative styles of leadership, with the potential for generating negative influence on the functioning of employees in organization and organization as a whole. New leadership style – fake Leadership – is introduced based on a three-dimensional approach to the analysis of leadership: Leaders' traits (on the individual level of a leader), which may be described as the orientation on the leader's own goals or on collective goals; behaviors toward employees (on the level of employees-leader relation), which may be described as pro-employees or anti-employees; and behaviors toward organization (on the level of organization-leader relation), which may be described as pro-organization or anti-organization. It is characterized by the focus on individual goals of the leader (regardless of their importance for the organization or employees) coupled with anti-employees and anti-organizational behaviors. Fake leaders are described as those operating with intent to engage in negative behavior toward employees and organization, simultaneously aiming at hiding such intent. The chapter presents detailed analysis of each dimension, explaining the concept of fake leadership and its definition.
