ABSTRACT

The first chapter of this work begins the exploration of arrogance, delving into various definitions and using literary figures to illuminate this intriguing human trait. The authenticity of literature as a source of knowledge about human life forms and their intricacies becomes apparent, allowing a transition from the abstract confines of conceptual definitions to a more vivid and profound “aesthetic” perspective. Surprisingly, the portrayal of truly exemplary “arrogant” characters is relatively rare, although a few individuals stand out remarkably. One such notable character is Sophocles’ Oedipus, whose presence reverberates in the next chapter.
