ABSTRACT

The chapter summarizes the results of the empirical research and presents the key findings. Combining the findings of scholars of democracy and public policy theory with the theory of deliberative democracy and the results of empirical research, this chapter argues that the experience of mini-publics can support the renewal of the decision-making process of representative institutions. The chapter argues that some “innovations” are not new at all. Based on empirical research findings and key features of deliberative processes, it identifies areas where deliberative mini-publics can inspire traditional representative bodies, as well as elements of deliberative democracy that can be [re]introduced into the operations of collegiate representative bodies to improve the quality of their work.
