ABSTRACT
When Pat returned home at the end of the Blitz she found new artist friends among Chingford’s communists and organized a local housewives’ group to assemble widgets in support of the Party’s war production effort. The Beveridge Report enthused her with its vision of a post-war welfare state and she joined other women campaigning to ensure that the new family allowance be paid directly to the housewife.
