ABSTRACT

In a 1:1 classroom, having an easy-to-use communication system simplifies the exchange of information among teachers and students. Learning management system (LMS) is limited to the instructor and the students enrolled in the course, a walled garden to protect students and keep class communications private. To use an LMS well, teachers must communicate effectively about both subject content and classroom logistics. Dropbox can be a useful workflow tool if teachers create shared folders with students, but Dropbox also allows them to right-click on any document and get a link to share that document. When teachers begin to ask their students to communicate with them and each other in online spaces, they also need to begin teaching about digital citizenship: the etiquette, behaviors, and laws that govern their online behavior. When they want to get an answer from all of their students, based either on an activity or assessment, they use a Google Form (a feature available through Google Drive).
