ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates that there are multiple ways of reaching an audience for student work. Using 1:1 devices changes the game when it comes to audience. Blogs fairly instantly enable students to connect with a real-world audience and engage in meaningful dialogue. There is a way to extend a student’s readership is through electronic publishing, or ePub. Most modern word processing and publishing software programs have templates that will make the students’ products look very professional. The Internet can connect students to a readership half a world away, VoIP can provide face-to-face correspondence. Whether submitting a story to an online competition or responding publicly to news reports or product reviews, students have agency when they write for a broader readership. There are a few more ideas for submitting student work to professional sites. They would submit note cards and outlines to their audience of one—the teacher—and await feedback before continuing their research and writing.
