ABSTRACT
The most obvious thing that the Russian people have done, and one which influences all their other work, is the industrialization of their country. To understand why they decided that this had to be done, and why they thought it had to be done in a way radically different from the earlier industrializations of Britain, France, U.S.A., Germany, Belgium, northern Italy and Japan, we have to look into the back history of industry in Russia.
