ABSTRACT
The Soviet Union has developed a robust launch capability with a complete family of launch vehicles to maintain its diverse military, scientific and growing commercial space activities. This space transportation system now includes a capability, perfected over the years, to place manned and unmanned spacecraft to NEO literally upon demand. Soviet space station activities have demonstrated a gradual evolution towards permanent space habitation complemented by increasing technical sophistication.
