ABSTRACT

The direction of the book is set out in this chapter. The scope of the book is Anglicanism, not just the Church of England. Chapters 2 and 3 look at theological developments with the stages of Tractarianism. Chapters 4 and 5 look at liturgical development with a worldwide movement of revision of the 1662 Prayer Book. Chapters 5 and 6 look at the change in episcopal practice with the bishop going to the people, rather than the people coming to him. The theory is that the paradigm changes from ‘the renewal of the covenant of grace’ to ‘the sacramental principle’.
