ABSTRACT

A way should be found of linking the Annual Members more closely with the administration of the Hospital. The central administration of the Society is entrusted to the Executive Committee which meets at the Hospital four times a year. The first holder of the office was Bernard Gilbert who was also a voting member of the Executive Committee. For a probationary period of six months he was appointed to act as Chief Administration Assistant and if, at the end of that period, Linkhorn reported him to be satisfactory he was to be established in the position of Assistant General Secretary. In 1953 a Special Committee was appointed to inquire into the administration and finances of the Society. The Committee advised no drastic changes in the administration of the Hospital or the Hospital Society but its work was useful in pointing out where economies could be affected and how the organisation could be placed on a more businesslike footing.
