ABSTRACT

In 1921 Sir William Younger who had been Chairman of the Allies Hospital Benevolent Society was elected President of the Industrial Orthopaedic Society. When Linkhorn became General Secretary in 1923 the Industrial Orthopaedic Society was organised in two ‘areas’, the Northern Area, constituted in 1919, and the London Area, constituted in 1920. In 1923 the Southern Area was established and Frederick Messer was appointed Organiser. His office was at Swinton House, Gray’s Inn Road. An Annual Member who played a notable part in the earlier years of the Hospital’s history was Lionel Robson Leach. After Ambrose Woodall joined the staff of Manor House Hospital the first person to invite him to his house was Lionel Leach. In 1923 the Executive, dissatisfied with the existing constitution, set up a sub-committee to study the rules and regulations then in force and to prepare a constitution which gave more control to the industrial members.
