ABSTRACT

Sophia, a third grader in Liz Lynch and Teresa Edwards’s class at P.S. 87, imagined being the moon: I Am the Moo

I am the moon. I shine in the sky and the stars love me. I may look like a thin sliver or maybe round like a cookie. This is because I have phases. They depend on how the sun’s light hits me. I belong to the Earth. The Earth and I move together as if we are dancing. You might see me in the West. When I am in the West, I will set soon. I could be in the East. That is when I am rising and waking up. I rise in the sky at night and when you are sleeping, I watch over you. Astronauts like to come visit me. Only 12 people have walked on me. You weigh less on me and when you jump, you can go so high in the sky! During the day, I am as hot as the sun. At night, I am as cold as an ice cube. You know me. I am the moon.
