ABSTRACT

Published authors tend to assess every piece of writing that comes our way—no matter where we might encounter it. The Better Answer Rubric can be used for all subjects. The scale has two major sections: content and readableness. A progress folder is one of the most informative aspects of the entire assessment repertoire. One of the primary reasons writers must not forget to reread is because even professional writers make silly mistakes; they omit words or write words twice, overuse a particular word, and forget the value of transitions. Students are now ready to make steady use of the scale across the curriculum. Questions from the answer scale drive both the assessment and the conferring sessions. Plus, spreadsheets that hold this longitudinal data can be utilized across all subject areas that use constructed- response assessment. Thus, the Better Answer Rubric and the monitoring spreadsheets guide teachers toward data-driven decision-making.
