ABSTRACT

How do they do that?” Whenever I finish reading a really good book, I find myself filled with wonder. I’m fascinated by how those marks on the paper caused me to cry, cringe, or chuckle. When I think about close writing, I want our students to appreciate that process on a personal level. When we write, we should always be our own first reader but hopefully not our last. To share the story in our heads effectively through writing, we need to be clear, coherent, and captivating. We can learn best from those whose writing we love to read.
