ABSTRACT

The good news is that eventually, through much trial and error, the author found a way to let it happen vibrantly and successfully for most every student. Using the “Buzz About Books!” activity in oral or written form generally takes up fifteen minutes of class time three days a week. The students get a huge kick out of it, and they are always on the edge of their seats wondering who it will be this time. Students also need to learn which elements of the plot to include, and they must learn to move from one element to the next expeditiously rather than languishing forever and detailing trivia. Subjecting the entire class to lengthy stretches of time listening to these is too much, and attention will wane, resulting in an audience that is less engaged for students who speak near the end.
