ABSTRACT

Everybody likes to go to a party, but reluctant readers rarely like to go to school—not much of a party atmosphere, in their opinion. The PTA’s role is quite simple. The school librarian’s role is to have several copies of the featured book cataloged and available for checkout on the day the Cafe meets. Nothing creates a party atmosphere in school quite like a break in routine. Several years before book clubs were made popular, the American Library Association launched their own version of the idea with something called Club Read. They could even check the book out overnight and have someone read to them, but only once each month. Though innocuous with regard to final grades, what junior high school students won’t do for one bonus point has yet to be truly verified.
