ABSTRACT
This chapter concludes with five universal principles for interactive writing for grades PreK–5. The authors feature a complete lesson from each grade to show how all the pieces of the practice are pulled together to form a cohesive and comprehensive lesson. That said, there are core ideas that hold for every interactive writing lesson across all grades. Now is the time to see how all the steps in interactive writing come together to form a cohesive and comprehensive instructional approach for your students. You have walked carefully through each step of an interactive writing lesson and thought about how to pull it all together. Interactive writing exemplifies this principle as each lesson component (i.e., Experience, Prewrite, Compose, Share the Pen, Review, and Extend) plays an essential role in offering myriad teaching opportunities. A well-planned interactive writing lesson considers where student writers are and what writing skills or strategies are most needed to propel them further.
