ABSTRACT
Good teaching happens when the authors consider the end goals for students. Before a lesson begins, the readers think about their student writers: who they are, what they need next in their writing development, and how they will get them there. It is with that same spirit that the authors jump into the exploration of interactive writing. They have thought a lot about your needs as writing teachers and how best to support your writing instruction. And so they begin with our quick definition of interactive writing method, followed by snapshots of finished interactive writing pieces. These pieces may spark your interest, prompt your thinking, and cause you to ask questions. They invite you to consider the power and possibilities of interactive writing. Interactive writing is a dynamic instructional method during which the teacher serves as the expert writer for her students as they work together to construct a meaningful text while simultaneously discussing the details of the writing process.
