ABSTRACT

Research with CLD students demonstrates the importance of teachers making a shift from the traditional classroom model where desks are in straight rows and the teacher is in front, to a model of classroom organization emphasizing student centers, and a mixture of guided, group and independent work. It hasn't, however, stopped the people from dreaming and setting up an environment in their classrooms that oozes artiste. When stepping inside a classroom that is a labyrinth of shelves and tables where kids sit on cushions or in armchairs, people sometimes don't understand how the people can teach. When all the boxes are lined up, the people can see the whole classroom community. They also have been organizing all of the reading materials from our classroom library in themed boxes, making the contents more accessible to ELLs.
