ABSTRACT

Ultimately every writer must follow the path that feels most comfortable. For most people learning to write, that path is nonfiction. It enables them to write about what they know or can observe or can find out. Writer's workshop is a time when the kids can share their thinking and let it explode into a book, poster, mobile, or anything else they might want to create. Drawing is also a medium through which the kids are developing questions and making discoveries about certain things. Often kids are spread out in the circle area, markers, paper, glue, paint, and glitter scattered about. With small pictures attached to the posters the entire school audience of kids, parents, teachers, and visitors can see the faces responsible for this great thinking. It is challenging to weave curriculum into the writing and still let the kids follow their hearts.
