ABSTRACT

Writing takes courage and perseverance. Encouraging short writing assignments makes writing easier for students and us. Re-vision, carefully re-looking at and re-examining a piece of writing as both a whole and in its parts—for example, at the paragraph, sentence, and word levels—can be time consuming and labor intensive. Editing is the clean-up stage in which we get ready for a nearly flawless presentation. That means spelling, punctuation, and grammar must be correct. Editing also refers to our final efforts for accuracy and clarity, which often includes finessing word choice and form. Fluency and ease with handwriting are vital even in our Internet age. Writing is an act of thinking; and rethinking and revising for coherence, relevance, and efficacy take time.
