ABSTRACT

Anecdotal notes seem like a good idea but are sometimes difficult to keep up with. One idea is to use a clipboard assessment tool on which to take notes during independent reading and literacy work stations. Generally, most teachers meet with their lowest readers more often. Most schools ask teachers to work with their struggling readers every day. Teachers are very caring people and want to treat all children fairly. The reality in most classrooms is that it is very difficult to meet with our lowest students every day in small group because we'll run out of time very quickly. Grouping emergent readers looks somewhat different than grouping students who are reading.
