ABSTRACT

Lovely watercolor, gouache, and pastel illustrations accurately depict the sand and shore of the sea turtle’s world. Students learn that people sometimes change the natural world in ways that are harmful to water-dwelling creatures and their environments. They also discover that there are simple, effective things we can all do to protect watery worlds and the living things that call them home. Communicate solutions reduce the impact of humans on the land, water, air, and/or other living things in the local environment. Invite students to create visual models that show the local water environment and the animals that live there. Students learn that people may harm water-dwelling creatures without even realizing it. They also discover that when caring people work together, they can protect living things that depend on a local water environment. With these new insights, students may now begin to wonder how they can help other living things stay safe.
