ABSTRACT

Intentionality means not teaching the same thing “louder and longer,” but looking for a different way to reach the children. Teachers with an intentional framework naturally move to brainstorming sessions about solutions. Coaches need the same level of support and accountability as teachers do in order to grow in their roles. As with teachers and coaches, principals need support and accountability to grow as leaders. Many teachers, principals, and coaches unwittingly put up their own roadblocks of impossibility: they believe, either consciously or subconsciously, that genetics determines student success in school. A culture of “can” is not created by teachers and principals alone; it comes about when students themselves discover that they can be successful. Being intentional requires teachers, coaches, and principals to be present in the moment, conscious of children, children’s thinking, and the goals they have in mind.
