ABSTRACT

The authors won’t love every book they pick up and read. Nor should they be expected to. Their students are the same way. With so many books in the world, they want their students to select books that make them feel something, that offer them something new, or that allow them to feel proud. That means they have to give students space to make choices, which can start with helping them tap into what they notice and wonder about themselves as readers. When do they feel excited as readers? When do they feel frustrated or bored? When do they want to tell someone else about what they’ve read? When do they notice they are full of questions? Tapping into these observations about ourselves can be really helpful in shaping our book choices.
