ABSTRACT

The invitation is designed to encourage students to add to ongoing class concept maps that give them a space to use writing in a public way to name something arrmational about themselves, to name what they can do, and to feel proud about something they did do. This lesson launches the process for students to self-select when it is a good time for them to add to an interactive class chart on large display paper. Every student may not immediately have an idea to add, but over time all of your students will add to these displays. Hang these charts somewhere where students can access them, and place a jar of inviting thin markers nearby for students to add to the charts when an idea strikes them.
