ABSTRACT

When we have the courage to ask questions, we feel compelled to ask more questions. As readers, when we ask questions, we are activating our thinking and going deeper into a story. As writers, when we ask questions, we strengthen our work and the work of our peers from a place of genuine curiosity. And the more we ask questions, the better our questions become. Literature helps us have models for asking questions and, in turn, helps us generate our own questions with greater ease. Wordless (and nearly wordless) picture books are also natural pathways for questioning because we have to wonder what the characters are thinking and feeling.
