ABSTRACT
Like Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, DC, Gettysburg Area Middle School, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, has embraced its location relative to its history. It borders Culp’s Hill at Gettysburg National Military Park, scene of heavy combat during those first three days of July 1863. Given its proximity to the battlefield, Union and Confederate troops more than likely traversed the school’s grounds. Eisenhower was born in Texas in 1890, raised in Abilene, Kansas, and attended West Point Academy, graduating in 1915. He was a member of what is called “The Class of Stars,” which included among its graduates Omar Bradley and others who would shape the direction of World War II. Some important events took place at the Eisenhower home and farm.
