ABSTRACT

One of the major differences between earlier approaches to working with families and current practices is the way the people try to involve them in team-building activities. According to Donald Hackmann student-led conferences enable students to take an active role in discussing academic progress, which encourages them to be more accountable about their progress to their parents and teachers. Preparation for student-led conferences on team includes collecting artifacts, reviewing and self-evaluating the artifacts, planning discussion points, and practicing conference procedures. Parents sign up for time slots during which they come to view their child’s portfolio and have a conference with their child. Administrators really need to be informed about successful endeavors as well as problems. If teaming demonstrates nothing else, it definitely supports the belief that more can be accomplished as a group than individually.
