ABSTRACT

“All stories need problems, and sometimes they are the same like in The Mixed-Up Chameleon and A Color of His Own.” The group starts out with a few children but swells as more and more get pulled in from its fringes. Reading workshop continues to unfold daily. The club meetings are scheduled during independent reading time. Writing workshop offers similar opportunities for extension. As the author watch class of kindergartners participate in daily reading and writing activities, he notice that they have their reading and writing personas firmly in place. Amazingly, in spite of the scribbles, the crossed-out lines, and the inventive spelling, the author can read all the words. In the span of the past year, Ellali has made the connection between words, sounds, and their representative symbols.
