ABSTRACT

In retirement I luxuriate in waking up to my own natural rhythms, lingering over my morning tea and crossword puzzle, and finally planting an early vegetable garden. Although I try to take frequent walks in the exquisite Ithaca gorges, along Cayuga Lake, and through our country woods, I begin to miss the interaction with children in the natural world. I decide to offer an after-school enrichment class for third through fifth graders, hoping that my former students will sign up. I am also curious to see how older students will navigate the stream site and whether their nature journal entries will be more detailed or evocative.
