ABSTRACT
In the wake of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February 2018, the debate about gun control returned to center stage. By practicing forming arguments—prepared or impromptu—students learned to speak up and speak out with calm and informed professionalism. It can easily feel overwhelming to start something new, but the people have help. Plenty of teachers have started debating in math class, and they gladly share their ideas. Students were having so much fun debating in math class that after completing the given work, pairs of students made videos of themselves debating a chosen problem that they shared with their teacher.
