History, rather than memory, is a discipline that continually reexamines the past in light of the emergence of new evidence and the posing of new questions to existing evidence. Revision is central to interpreting the past and becomes a key focal point as the author use multiple perspectives to examine the Bonus Army of 1932. Balancing one-dimensional sources when students are considering only the information presented in the text is easy. It is a much more daunting task to have them balance multiple sources from a multiple-dimensional perspective. In the midst of the prosperous 1920s, American soldiers, led by the newly formed American Legion, petitioned Congress for monetary recognition of the sacrifices they had made as participants in World War I. The earliest phases of a history course using music as a source will be dominated by drinking songs, martial songs, and folk music.
