ABSTRACT

Science is a Darwinian process. Darwin proposed that organisms evolve via a dual process of variation and selection. We are still trying to understand the details of this process, but in outline it is perfectly clear. Organisms vary; a population will consist of individuals that differ in many ways. In a given environment, some of those variants will work better than others and allow them to have more fertile offspring than the rest. Those offspring will inherit some of the good adaptive features of their parents and so on.
