ABSTRACT

By drawing together the various aspects of caring discussed so far, we may differentiate three broad sets of responses by which women sought to fit caring into their everyday lives – ‘coping’ responses. Our delineation of these is tentative and we would not wish to suggest that they are entirely mutually exclusive, or that they provide an exhaustive analysis of responses to caring, or that they illustrate all the issues discussed thus far. However, they were the most prevalent responses in our sample and in discussing them we may also show how the themes we have focused on so far fit together in the everyday lives of our respondents.
