ABSTRACT
Although the main emphasis of this book is upon the aging of gross function, a brief consideration of cellular changes may contribute to our overall understanding of the aging process. Topics to be reviewed in this chapter include the genetics of aging, theories concerning its metabolic basis, the metabolism of the aging cell, tissue energy reserves, and microstructural changes.
