ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how megaprojects, for their complexity, costs and long-lasting impacts, must have a duty of care and social responsibility. For these reasons, the term Megaproject Social Responsibility (MSR) has been introduced by management scholars. Among other things, a good MSR approach entails moving from older conceptions of stakeholder identification, prioritization and management to relational approaches that take also into account the networks of stakeholders that gravitate around the project. In this chapter it is argued that attending these concerns and involving stakeholders early on, and throughout all phases of the megaproject, will contribute to its success.
