ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we extend our discussion by examining good practice in prescribing in a number of key areas: hypertension, tranquillisers and antidepressants, and prescribing for sleep problems. Clearly, there are many other areas affecting the GP and other health workers, however, we hope that the suggestions and recommendations we make will stimulate a reconsideration of prescribing practices in other conditions affecting older people. The arguments should also be related to the views expressed in Chapter 10, regarding the importance of a health education policy within general practice.
