ABSTRACT
Residential care of elderly people is a subject which has been somewhat neglected by social work practitioners and by writers on social work practice. Most attention to residential care has been focused on the care of children and whilst it is important that the knowledge, principles and practice that have developed in relation to the young are explored in the discussions about the purpose and process of caring for elderly people, there are certain issues which currently are of major significance for residential care of old people.
